Starting from the historic village of Yuksom, this trail takes you through dense forests, remote ridgelines, and forgotten paths that few trekkers venture onto. Unlike popular routes, Bajre Dara remains beautifully offbeat, offering a rare sense of solitude where the only sounds are rustling leaves and distant mountain winds.

As you gradually ascend, the landscape transforms—from thick green canopies to high-altitude ridges—until you reach the crown of the trek, Bajre Dara itself. From here, you’re rewarded with sweeping, uninterrupted views of the mighty Kanchenjunga range, standing tall in all its glory without the chaos of crowded viewpoints.

What makes this trek truly special is not just the destination, but the journey—passing through hidden hamlets, untouched wilderness, and ending at the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, where nature and spirituality quietly meet.

This is a trek for explorers—the kind who don’t just want to see the mountains, but feel them.

The Itinerary Details

Day 1: New Jalpaiguri to Yuksom

Altitude: 1,800 m / 5,700 ft
Distance: ~150 km
Time: 7–8 hours drive

What to expect:

Start early from NJP and drive through lush tea gardens of Dooars, river valleys, and winding hill roads.
Pass through towns like Jorethang and Tashiding.
Reach Yuksom — the historic first capital of Sikkim and a major trekking base.

Stay:

Homestay / Guesthouse in Yuksom

Tips:

Keep buffer time—roads can be slow.
Hydrate well to start acclimatization.

Day 2: Yuksom → Melliaching → Bhanjang

Drive: ~20 km | 2 hrs
Trek: 7–8 km | 6–7 hrs
Altitude:
- Melliaching: 1,800 m
- Bhanjang: 2,500 m

What to expect:

Short drive to Melliaching (trek starting point).
Trek begins through dense forests, bamboo groves, and gradual ascents.
Trail is peaceful, untouched, and less commercial than popular routes.

Terrain:

Forest trail, mild to moderate climb
Occasional steep patches

Stay:

Campsite at Bhanjang

Highlights:

First proper Himalayan wilderness feel
Birdlife and silence 🔥

Day 3: Bhanjang → Bajre Dara (Summit Day)

Altitude: 3,400 m / 11,000 ft
Distance: ~4 km
Time: 6–7 hrs (slow ascent due to steep terrain)

What to expect:

Short but steep and demanding climb.
Trail becomes narrower and more rugged.
Final stretch opens to ridge views.

At Bajre Dara:

Stunning panoramic views of:
- Kanchenjunga range
- Singalila ridge landscapes
One of the least crowded viewpoints in Sikkim

Stay:

Campsite at Bajre Dara

Highlights:

Sunrise/sunset views are insane 🌄
True offbeat Himalayan experience

Day 4: Bajre Dara → Lamathang

Altitude: 2,100 m / 6,900 ft
Distance: ~6 km
Time: 5–6 hrs

What to expect:

Descend through rhododendron forests and alpine vegetation.
Trail is easier but can be slippery.

Terrain:

Downhill forest trail
Some rocky patches

Stay:

Camp / basic homestay in Lamathang

Highlights:

Changing landscape (alpine → forest)
Peaceful remote village vibe

Day 5: Lamathang → Khecheopalri Lake → NJP

Trek: ~4 km | 1–2 hrs
Drive: ~170 km | 7–8 hrs
Altitude (Lake): 2,000 m

What to expect:

Easy trek down to Khecheopalri Lake.
Visit the sacred “wish-fulfilling lake” (important Buddhist site).

Experience:

Calm, spiritual atmosphere
No leaves float on the lake (local belief: birds keep it clean)

Return:

Drive back to NJP via scenic hill roads.
