Dzongri-La Trek (7 Days)

Dzongri la Trek(7 Days)

The Overview

The Dzongri-La Trek in Sikkim is one of the most breathtaking short Himalayan adventures, offering trekkers an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Kanchenjunga mountain range. Starting from the historic village of Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, this trek takes you through dense forests, alpine meadows, and high-altitude landscapes before reaching the spectacular Dzongri viewpoint.

As you ascend through lush rhododendron and oak forests, the trail gradually opens into wide Himalayan meadows where towering snow-clad peaks dominate the skyline. The highlight of the trek is the magical sunrise from Dzongri La, where trekkers witness a golden panorama of some of the most magnificent Himalayan giants including Mt. Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Kabru, and Rathong.

The journey offers an incredible mix of natural beauty, adventure, and cultural immersion. Trekkers pass through pristine wilderness inside the Khangchendzonga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich biodiversity, rare wildlife, and untouched Himalayan ecosystems.

Ideal for both adventure seekers and nature lovers, the Dzongri-La Trek is perfect for those looking for a high-altitude Himalayan experience in a shorter time frame while still enjoying some of the most dramatic mountain views in the Eastern Himalayas.

The Itinerary Details

Day 1: Yuksom (1,780 m) → Sachen (2,200 m)

Your journey begins from the historic village of Yuksom, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga region. After completing permit formalities, the trek enters dense forests inside Khangchendzonga National Park. The trail follows the Rathong River through lush greenery, suspension bridges, and gradual ascents before reaching the peaceful campsite of Sachen.

Today’s trail climbs steadily through thick oak, pine, and rhododendron forests. You pass through Bakhim, a small resting point offering beautiful valley views. After lunch, the trail continues uphill until you reach Tshoka, a charming high-altitude settlement with traditional wooden huts and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 3: Tshoka → Dzongri (4,020 m)

This is one of the most scenic sections of the trek. The trail winds through spectacular rhododendron forests, which bloom with vibrant colors during spring.
