Starting from the charming hills of Darjeeling, the road slowly fades into a rugged mountain track as you reach Maneybhanjang—the true gateway to Singalila.
From here, your adventure takes a dramatic turn. You hop into a vintage Land Rover or a 4×4 jeep—machines that have ruled these trails for decades—and begin your ascent along one of the most iconic off-road routes in the Eastern Himalayas. The trail is raw, steep, and unpredictable, cutting through dense forests, mist-covered bends, and remote mountain hamlets like Kalphokri, known for its sacred black lake and quiet, untouched charm.
But the real magic unfolds as you climb higher.

On a clear day, you’re standing face-to-face with four of the five highest peaks in the world—Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu—stretching across the horizon in a formation famously known as the “Sleeping Buddha.” It’s not just a view; it’s a moment that stays with you long after the journey ends.

Day 1: Darjeeling → Maneybhanjang → Kalphokri
Your journey begins from Darjeeling with a scenic cab ride to Maneybhanjang, the gateway to the Singalila ridge. From here, switch to a rugged vintage Land Rover/jeep and begin your off-road adventure. The trail climbs through forests, steep bends, and Indo-Nepal border routes, eventually reaching Kalphokri—a quiet mountain village known for its sacred black lake. Overnight stay at Kalphokri.
Day 2: Kalphokri → Sandakphu → Thakum Valley Sightseeing → Sandakphu Stay
Post breakfast, continue your ascent towards Sandakphu, the highest point in West Bengal, offering unmatched panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu on clear days.
After reaching Sandakphu, head out for a short jeep excursion towards Thakum Valley, a hidden gem known for its rolling valleys and dramatic landscapes. Return to Sandakphu by evening and stay overnight amidst the clouds.
Day 3: Sandakphu → Maneybhanjang → Darjeeling
Wake up to a magical Himalayan sunrise at Sandakphu. After breakfast, begin your descent via jeep back to Maneybhanjang, followed by a comfortable cab ride back to Darjeeling. The journey ends with unforgettable views and memories from one of the most iconic high-altitude routes in Eastern Himalayas.
